Frequently Asked Questions?
What is GreenOfaKind?
Why should I care about this stuff?
Alright, we're going to tell you some things which you probably already know the answers to and with a touch of guilt added for good measure...
Look around. No, I mean really look around! Look beyond the walls and computer-screen. Look beyond the parking lot, the buildings, the telephone poles, the highway, the malls, the power plants... what do you "see" now? Oh, that green stuff called trees and plants and forests and something generally called "nature." This includes mountains and snow-peaked hills, too. It's probably the same thing we drive to a few times in the summer or winter to camp at, RV, fish, ski, and just enjoy for what it is before we head back to "civilization." Even if we have never actually been there or want to go, we know it's there! And we know (because we're smart people) that THAT green stuff makes our air, cleans our water we get from the mountains, and psychologically takes us back to simplicity in a very hard and complicated world we created for ourselves. It's a breath of fresh air (pun intended).
We are here, that stuff is there. Where is "there"? Oh, just a few miles or kilometers THAT way... So if we were in a really high balloon we could see it? Probably. So we're really not THAT far away from it considering how small this planet is, being round and everything. No, looks like we're not.
Here is our point, if we're not that far away from it and we obviously don't live in a glass cage, what we do here makes a difference to that stuff there. Since we don't like bad things next to us - this is what really happens - newsflash:
You get the idea - everything we do has an indirect impact that we may not see or realize on the things and places we cherish and more importantly - need. The simple everyday choices we make now create a ripple effect of issues that we don't see or realize. (a cute and educational video of this is located at storyofstuff.com) From the food that we eat, the clothes we wear, the paint we buy, the paper-towels we use - all create a ripple effect. Through simple choices, we can establish what kind of impact we've created on the things we love, the things we need. So as you can see, and as little we want to admit, we do make a difference. Our ancestors and our parents have worked hard to get us what we have today. We thank them, we blame them, and we appreciate them. Here's the question you may not want to hear: What will our kids say about us? What do you want our kids to say about us? We live very briefly, our impacts live a lot longer.
What do I do NOW since I know the answers to all the above questions?
Easy. Throw away all your personal possessions, sell the car, and live in a mud-hut eating grain with water for the rest of your life. Of course, this is a joke!
We love what we have, we want to keep it all, and want more of the same tomorrow and next year! This includes the "green places" we talked about before as well! Alright, here's the deal. If we want ALL this and want to keep getting it for us, our kids, and our children's children, we will have to look at our decisions we're making now to make sure we can keep getting it. As you now know, the way we we do things and what we do presently is not very kind to the things we need. We didn't do it, but like established before, indirectly we sort of did - sorry.
We can either ignore it and hope for the best (not a very good choice since we should be accountable for our actions), or we can flip through these pages with easy to access information of all the little things we can do everyday that collectively make a huge HUGE impact on maintaining what we want and need!
All the information contained here you can find on the internet (all are referenced and linked for further investigating if you're so inclined) but we also noticed that plenty of information has a biased spin. We don't like biased opinions because that's trying to sell you something. We want to maintain this site as informative-only as possible so you could establish your own lives around this information. We have opinions as well, and that's what makes us human, but facts should be facts so impartiality is very important.
So, if you're still reading this, we'd like to declare that this "green"-stuff is easy. Landing on the moon? Slightly more difficult - but we did that too! Sooner than you may realize - all this will be second nature - perhaps even intuitive!
We value your opinion - what do you think about this page?
