Let's face it, why re-invent the wheel when we're already uncomfortable venturing into an area that may be completely new to us. Building with sustainability principles is not a means to prove to the world that you are the first at something, this is a means by which you prove to yourself that the world comes first. Case studies help us determine, validate, cost-estimate, create a viable checklist and starting point, and most of all, be a case in point of its validity. Although at this point it should come as no surprise to know that long-term building is actually less expensive, it is helpful to reference existing buildings and systems to prove to others of its viability in your project(s). It's also important to note that long term building cost is one means of measure - but another is the occupant side-effect of greater productivity, decreased absenteism, and other employer bottom-line benefits that make leasing that much more favorable in a competitive market.
